Chairs
It's a new production of a classic design.
There are basically 2 types of Pierre Jeanneret or Chandigarh chairs. Chairs that are built in the 1950's - and newly built chairs. All chairs manufactured in the 1950's are referred to as originals. Any newly made Chandigarh or Pierre Jeanneret style chair is a re-edition. We can honestly say our chairs are considered to be top-quality re-editions.
Yes. Chairs can be returned within 14 days of delivery, giving you time to experience them in your home. Private viewings at our Amsterdam showroom are also possible by appointment. You can also view our products at selected galleries across the world. Find them here.
Note: return shipping charges are for the client.
Our Chandigarh re-editions are handmade in solid teak and natural rattan, faithful to the proportions and spirit of the 1950's originals. Each piece is handcrafted with care to honour the Chandigarh Collective’s vision while being refined for today. They are the best re-editions available for purchase
Our Chandigarh chair re-editions are true to the 1950's designs by Pierre Jeanneret and the Chandigarh Collective. The only adjustment is a slightly elevated seat height of 45 cm, adapted to today’s standards for comfort and dining.
The original chairs have rattan applied in a so called 'Square weaving' application. Each string of rattan is carefully woven into the frame by hand, giving the chairs their typical 1950's look. Less accurate re-editions often use machine 'diamond pattern' mats stapled to the frame. The original chairs have rattan applied in a so called 'Square weaving' application. Of all wood types, teak is likely to be the least sensitive to humidity. We dry our teak wood up to 5 weeks to ensure perfect humidity levels. Minor warping of solid wood is normal; an extra floor protector under one leg can help if a chair 'wiggles' a bit.
We sell a small selection of products directly via our own website, cutting out the retailer margin. Offering a small selection and not providing tailored products also standardises and streamlines production.
The answer lies in four details:
- Faithfulness to the 1950's design.
- Square weaving by hand.
- Teak wood.
- Overall build quality: handmade and crafted like a piece of art.
We only work with responsibly sourced teak. Our rattan (cane) used for seating comes from natural sources.
The most common name is Armchair or Office Chair, but it’s mostly used as a dining chair. Different names, same chair.
Yes. Handmade natural materials vary. Wood grain and color differ per tree; natural rattan also varies. We embrace these differences as nature’s design.

If you see a longer waiting time for the chairs in our shop it means we have sold out and are producing new chairs. Producing the chairs takes a considerate amount of time. And as important (and time consuming) is drying the wood. We dry our wood for up to 5 weeks to get the perfect level of humidity and assure a minimum of warping. So you may have to wait a little longer. Yet trust us, it is worth the wait.
